PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVBT) - Bliss Bakery's John Coffren was the kitchen and brought us some comfort food.
Bliss Bakery believes that great businesses are heavily involved in the community and take a vow to practice socially responsible behavior.
Bliss starts with a policy of paying any full-time employee a “living wage.” This means our full-time employees have a fighting chance of paying their bills and building a future, while serving you great bakery treats. We also focus our attention on growing their skills so they have rewarding careers serving the public.
Next, we are committed to doing our part to fight childhood hunger. By the end of this year, over 12 million children will worry about having the food they need. We combat this issue in our community in several different ways:
First, Bliss Bakery supports Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale. In addition to a cash contribution, we will feature monthly “Half Baked Idea®” sales where special promotional items will be featured from 4:30 - closing each weekday. Half of the sales price of each item will be donated to Share Our Strength.
We also donate our just out of date products to the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and other local charities. This will help ensure that nothing we do is wasted, when possible.
We will also sponsor events to heighten awareness of hunger in Hampton Roads and facilitate ways for our valued customers to address this issue. Whether it is a “Bride Dive®” into a giant wedding cake with some valuable prize hidden inside, or some other wacky event, Bliss will ensure that any proceeds from such events are channeled to organizations committed to ending child hunger in our community.
